Announcement: What’s new in the next evolution of Journaling with Tarot!
Coming in September 2025!

The Next Evolution of Journaling with Tarot will begin September 2, 2025, where we will once again begin again with The Major Arcana with The Fool. 💜 In this new beginning, there will be some changes to the format, which has been going on for the last 3.5 years in 2 cycles, every Tuesday at 2 PM Pacific. And I am very excited to announce these changes, and are as follows!
First, I’ve listed what they are, and you can find more detailed explanations below.
Changes in the Next Evolution of Journaling with Tarot!
1) We’ll be diving into Reversals / Shadow
2) We’re welcoming Trish Appleyard on staff! She’ll be facilitating once a month
3) Trish will have a Tarot Academics corner where she’ll talk through history, symbolism, numerology etc.
4) Rider-Waite Smith will now be the main deck we’re basing interpretations on. (And switching up the other decks shown too!)
5) Since there’s more content to review, the first half of class’s comments and questions shall be reserved for the chat.
Okay, and now my ramble about the specifics:
1) We’ll be diving into Reversals / Shadow
This is a big change since some of you know that I don’t read reversals! I’m a largely intuitive reader and I believe that there are bits and pieces of both upright and reversal in each card and I still do.
If you don’t know what reversals are, reversals are when a card is pulled reversed (upside down) instead of right-side-up. The Reversals provide a meaning that is the essence of the card, but with a different energy, usually pointing to resistance, an unhealthy / imbalance of the card – pointing to a shadow.
And if you don’t know what the shadow is, I define shadow as the unconscious / hidden aspect of us that we hide or deny, usually as a survival mechanism in order to cope, due to fear, trauma or judgement. This can include ‘positive’ traits within us that we don’t allow ourselves to see, due to programming or previously unsafe circumstances.
I came to this decision in a couple of ways. For one, ever since the beginning of the year, the divisiveness of what’s going on in the world is showing me that there is indeed a shadow that is cast over us right now.Â
And when I say ‘shadow’ I mean, both the darkness, and how this directly correlates to the need to see what is unconscious and hidden within us that needs to come to light. And to do our own inner shadow work on this is more needed than ever before.
Because I do believe that the micro affects the macro of what’s going on in this world, and vice versa. The world is showing us that it’s not time to shy away from the shadow, but to look at it in the face, and see what’s hidden to come to light. And that light, is the truth. And even though the truth is hard, it also sets us free, and opens our hearts to a deeper part of ourselves. 💜
And when I say ‘us’ that includes myself. 😅 In my own inner work, I’ve been seeing how I also have a tendency to only acknowledge the light. And all of this converges in this decision to go deeper with each card and our co-journeys by including reversal / shadow.
One more thing to say about this is that I do feel that many interpretations of reversals feel very ‘negative’. And I think partially, it’s how it’s written, but also, there is no context as to why these shadow parts of us get shut away. I intend on giving reversal interpretations that are more compassionate, allowing ourselves to heal, rather than feeling like we’re being criticized.
You’re always welcome to take what resonates and leave the rest. This is why we explore the card for ourselves!
2) We’re welcoming Trish Appleyard on staff! She’ll be facilitating once a month
Trish has done a great job of sub’ing! And honestly, this was one of those callings that came to me without any real reason, other than having a desire to invite Trish to do it, because I know she’ll be a great facilitator! (And also the theme of collaboration has been hitting me over the head in the cards as well, so it became pretty clear this was the move.)
If you don’t know, Trish is a professional tarot reader in her own right, and I know her commentary has been helpful for others. She’ll be hosting roughly every 3rd week of the month and I’m excited to partner with her! 💜
3) Trish will have a Tarot Academics corner where she’ll talk through history, symbolism, numerology etc.
Besides her once a month facilitation, Trish will also be speaking to some of the academics of the cards in our weekly sessions!
As I had mentioned, I’m an intuitive tarot reader, and so honestly what I am truly passionate about when it comes to the tarot are the concepts, lessons, and essence of the card and I kinda use the tarot as a spiritual bible as a framework for my own spirituality! I go deeper into the card through meditation, readings / channelings and self-exploration of IRL situations and correlate them to the cards.
Although this is one way of learning the tarot, I fully recognize that people are interested in resonating with it in other ways, such as the history, deep symbolism, numerologically. And honestly, when someone tells me about it, I am interested to hear, but I do not have the urge to study it in this way. 😅
Instead of trying to force myself into something I’m not naturally drawn to, I thought ‘why not team up with someone who is?’ and that’s when I asked Trish if she was interested in partnering up on this. I am delighted that Trish is passionately studious about it, and I hope this will bring us all a different perspective. ✨
4) Rider-Waite Smith will now be the main deck
I love the Modern Witch Tarot, and I used Modern Witch because I felt it was a more modernized version of the Rider-Waite Smith. With the combination of Trish giving more academic contexts and in the spirit of learning, the RWS is more appropriate as the central deck.Â
We will also be switching up the other decks, and we’ll be featuring the Light Seer’s Tarot (for it’s fascinating alternate depictions) and the Millennial Tarot (for its humor and a look at a different generation vs the 1950s Housewives Tarot). The 4th deck will be ‘Chef’s Choice” — and could be different depending on the card!
As always, you can use your own deck to learn from, and I love seeing everyone’s various decks.
5) The first half of class’s comments will be reserved for the chat.
Lastly, because of the changes, we’ll be implementing a new rule where we’re going to keep comments and questions to the chat for the first half. This will hopefully help us from going over time too much.
I love hearing your comments and shares! And so I still encourage you to do so — just in the chat or in the second half, so that we can be respectful of everyone’s time.
